What is Stromboli

Before we dive in, let’s take a moment to understand what Stromboli is. Originating from the United States with Italian influences, Stromboli is a rolled and stuffed bread filled with a combination of cured meats, cheeses, and vegetables. It’s then baked to golden perfection, resulting in a savoury, flavorful delight.

Ingredients

Daiya cheese or soy cheese – Half cup

Dough

1 cup of Luke’s warm water

2 tbsp of White sugar

1 tbsp of Active dry yeast

3 cups of Almond flour

Sauce

1/3 cup of  Water

2 chopped Tomatoes

Herbs and spices (according to your taste)

A pinch of White sugar

A pinch of Gluten-free cornstarch

Directions

First, prepare the dough. Take one cup of lukewarm water and mix two tablespoons of white sugar and one tablespoon of active dry yeast in it.

Once it is properly mixed, transfer it to a bowl and mix flour with the mixture.

Knead the flour mixture until it softens and then cover the bowl with a cloth piece and let it sit for 30 minutes. This will allow the dough to rise.

When you are done with the dough, start preparing the sauce.

Take out chopped tomatoes in a pan and keep them at low heat until they start releasing their juice.

Add all the sugar, herbs and spices in the tomato juice, stir them and let them cook until the sauce thickens up.

Now start preparing Stromboli. Sprinkle some flour on the countertop and spread a thin, even layer of dough in a circular shape.

Cut the dough circle in an X shape, this will give you four triangular pieces.

When the sauce has cooled off, spread it on each triangular piece with a thick layer at the centre.

Next, spread a layer of cheese and then fold each triangular piece starting from the rounded edge towards the edge of the triangle.

Put your Stromboli in the baking pan and brush it with some sauce. This will speed up the browning process and add some flavour too.

Keep the pan in the oven and heat it at 475°F.

After 15 minutes take out the baking dish and let it cool off before eating.
